The 5th edition of the Oceania Athletes’ Forum is underway from the 22 – 24 September 2022, and this is a digest of athletes’ perspectives.
This mini-ezine is produced in the spirit of the International Olympic Committee’s tagline #AthletesFirst as our primary stakeholder in the global Olympic Movement.
Themes emerging in our athletes’ voices
Athletes expressed gratitude for learning about what Athletes’ Commissions roles and functions are, what is needed to access funding and opportunities, the wealth of existing support largely under-utilised, and on the basics of governance and how to work on the ground in home countries.
Some themes emerging from athletes as priorities to be pursued upon return to their countries include completion of Action Plans, elections, finalisation of Terms of References, and the targeted application and use of funding grants for the strengthening of Athletes’ Commissions and activities for athletes at national level.
